Rape

Rapeseed is a plant of the cabbage family, widely used in the world in the production of oil, as well as in cooking, cosmetology and pharmaceuticals. In addition, since the end of the last century, rapeseed seeds have been used in the production of biodiesel, and every year the need for this crop is growing. In many countries, the concept of “rapeseed” includes not only the culture itself, but also colza, sysia, Sarepta mustard and some other oily ones.

The main use of rapeseed is rapeseed oil. It is used in the manufacture of margarine, for the preparation of various dishes, as well as in the metallurgical, soap, textile and even leather industries.

In the last decade, due to the rising cost of fossil fuels and the actualization of environmental pollution issues, the production of biodiesel based on vegetable oil, including rapeseed, has become even more attractive.

The main uses of rapeseed are food (oil production and consumption), feed (for animals) and technical (for the production of biodiesel, oils, creams, medicines).

A number of features for which selection is carried out are common to all areas of selection.

Modern breeding varieties of rapeseed in Russia are characterized by high yield, high protein content, early maturity, as well as resistance to droughts and diseases.

Russia is one of the suppliers of rapeseed to the countries of Europe and Asia. On the territory of our country, rapeseed as a valuable oilseed crop began to be cultivated from the beginning of the 19th century.
